Trying to figure out how to incorporate Environmental Justice and other JEDI practices into the everyday workings of your organization? The Haw River Assembly is dedicated to the goal of environmental justice and equality for everyone living in the watershed. Our efforts are guided by our mission statement, our strategic plan and the work of our Environmental Justice, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Let us share with you how we have worked with communities to fight disproportionate burdens of pollution based on demographic factors such as race and income in the past - as well as the creation of our Environmental Justice Mapping tool to help raise citizen awareness of issues that still exist today.

    Presenter: Kyleene Rooks
Kyleene Rooks is the Outreach and Events Coordinator with the Haw River Assembly, where she works in conjunction with the Haw Riverkeeper to advocate for clean water and legislative change within the watershed. Kyleene is also responsible for organizing several longstanding events including a watershed wide clean up and three week series of field trips called the Learning Celebration. Prior to her work with the Haw River Assembly, Kyleene worked as a certified environmental educator with Guilford County's Soil & Water Conservation District. She also currently sits on the Orange SWCD board as an associate supervisor and the EENC board as policy chair.
