Seeking Program Coordinator to join our team

The Environmental Educators of North Carolina (EENC) grew from the desire of environmental educators across North Carolina to meet and share their experiences, aspirations, and tools. Since its inception in 1990, EENC has grown into something much greater. Our organization represents a network of outstanding environmental educators, individuals, and organizations who work together to accomplish our core mission: to build connections, provide professional development, and promote excellence in environmental education. We provide the forum to bring people together, leverage resources, and unite our voices across the state.

The Program Coordinator will serve part-time, approximately 20 hours per week, to increase EENC’s capacity to provide professional development programming across the state. This position is for a one-year term, with the opportunity to extend if agreeable to all parties. The employee will work remotely/predominately from home. Travel is required.

Roles/Responsibilities:

This new position will serve as a Program Coordinator for EENC’s Professional Development offerings.  The main roles will include:

  • Coordinating in-person and virtual events, workshops, and training.  The Program Coordinator will schedule, market, manage/deliver and evaluate events such as: 
      • online Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) courses, 
      • deep-dive JEDI workshops with contracted external facilitators, 
      • Guidelines for Excellence workshops, EENC’s webinar series and community calls, and
      • other events/workshops supporting EENC’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
The Program Coordinator will assist in developing future offerings including designing programs/workshops, writing Criteria I EE Certification applications, and investigating microcredentials. This position will also assist in planning/implementation of EENC’s conference, mini-conference, and potentially section events in roles co-determined by the Executive Director and EENC Board of Directors.
  • Developing tools and resources to help increase statewide recognition of EENC as a resource and lay a foundation for advocacy. This may include best practices guides and toolkits, researching and creating reports (ex: NC demographics analysis), and writing whitepapers/case statements.
  • Representing EENC by exhibiting/tabling/presenting at other organizations’ events and conferences. 
  • Assist with EENC communications, including content generation, newsletter, and other communications tasks to help improve our relationships with donors, members, and the broader environmental education community.

This position will also have allocated time for internal administrative work, such as responding to general emails, staff meetings, submitting personnel reports, etc.  The Program Coordinator will report to the Executive Director.

Who We’re Looking For:

We are seeking an expert professional development facilitator or an individual with a strong skill set and the ability to quickly take on new projects with ownership and confidence. We anticipate this person will have shared leadership in EENC, and help grow our capacity and organizational sustainability.

Requirements

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team 
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent logistical planning skills
  • Tech Savvy: Proficient with Office Suite, Google Suite, Zoom, Moodle or other learning management systems, Padlet, Jamboard, Canva, and other online tools - or ability to quickly become proficient
  • North Carolina residency or commitment to move to North Carolina within 30 days of hire
  • North Carolina drivers’ license or ability to acquire one within 90 days of hire. This position requires moderate independent travel to various locations within and beyond North Carolina for workshops, meetings, events, etc.
  • Ability to work some weekdays, evenings and weekends to accommodate special programming and events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience delivering professional development for adult audiences
  • Experience designing, developing, marketing and evaluating adult programs
  • Experience planning a wide variety of events
  • Experience in environmental education and a strong understanding of the field in the state, nationally, and internationally. 
  • Strong understanding of and ability to explain the concepts of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and their implications for environmental education
  • Experience developing newsletters and use of social media for business. 

Salary and Benefits:

This half-time (.5FTE) non-exempt salaried position will have a hiring range of $18,750-22,500 annually, plus a 10% benefits stipend.
